Blog post #4- My genre

The genre of my opening scene is teen film. Teen film is targeted at young adults and teenagers where the plot is based on their special interests. These could be anxiety, peer pressure, bullying, first loves, conflict with parents, etc. There are two types of teen films, teen drama and teen comedy. My opening scene will be based upon teen drama. There are many different ways to express teen drama. There's emotional and heartfelt and most of the times these types of movies are pretty dramatic. It all just depends on what your movie revolves around.

A good example of teen film is the movie "The Edge of Seventeen" starring Hailee Steinfeld. This movie is a coming-of-age teen drama. In this movie, Nadine's a junior in high school and her best friend is dating her older brother. When her brother and best friend get together, she starts to feel alone like she has no friends. She feels like high school is taking forever and she can't wait to leave. Throughout the movie she meets Krista and starts to feel like things aren't so bad after all. This is an example of a teen film, but it falls under the teen drama instead of the teen comedy. In this movie they portray a realistic example of what could happen to someone especially during high school.

The movie "10 things I hate about you", featuring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger is an example of teen drama. In the movie Kat's younger sister Bianca, isn't allowed to date until Kat gets a boyfriend. In the movie Kat's a high school senior who has shown no interest in dating. Patrick is paid by Bianca's love interest to date Kat but while getting to know her he catches feelings. In the end Kat found out he was being paid and felt heartbroken. For the first time she trusted a guy and he ended up lying to her for money. Since he had genuine feelings for Kat, he used the money he was given to date her and bought her the guitar she wanted. In the end Kat forgave him but that doesn't mean he didn't still hurt her. This movie expresses the feelings of love, hate, betrayal and forgiveness all in one.

Just like in the film "The Edge of Seventeen" I want my actor to feel as if high school takes forever and that it's repetitive. Comparing to the film "10 things I hate about you" I want my actor to feel that hurt and betrayal. I want my movie to be a teen drama that's a little dramatic.
