Blog Post #10- Genre Hybridity

Genre Hybridity is when you combine themes and characteristics from two or more different genres. Movie producers do this when they want to provide a wider span of audience members. By bringing together multiple different genres you typically bring in audience members from all the genres included. It brings more money for the movie, more viewers, more ratings and allows the viewers to broaden their genre preferences. Genre Hybridity is still commonly used.

The movie "Priscilla" was released in 2023, this is an example of a genre hybridity movie. This movie is a biography written by Priscilla Presley, with the help of others, on what she went through in the relationship with Elvis Presley. The genres of this movie are drama, romance and biography.

With this movie being a biography it's a story that's already well known about. The Priscilla name will bring in the audience members especially since it's a true story and it's familiar. The romance genre will bring in the people that find enjoyment in love and the feeling that it gives them. And the drama brings the audience members on a rollercoaster of emotions, and they might find that entertaining or reassuring.

My movie opening is containing drama and romance similar to "Priscilla". When you find interest in a genre you gain comfort from movies and films similar. I found comfort in the "Priscilla" movie and enjoy watching it. I want that to be the feeling after viewing my opening scene. I want to make the viewers feel entertained.
