Blog Post #11- Character types

In different films, character types are the characters that represents a particular class or group of people. The most common types are the protagonist and antagonist. The protagonist is the main character.  The antagonist is the enemy to the protagonist. More examples are the love interest, the romantic partner of the protagonist, and the mentor, mentors to help the protagonist move forward. When creating a type of film making the different character types stand out helps audience members know what role is being played by who.

In the "Hunger Games" movie series, from the start they show all character types. In the beginning of the movie, they open up with showing us the protagonist, Katniss. The first few minutes of the movie they follow Katniss around indicating that she is the protagonist. They then introduce us to Cornilious Snow, later shown to be the villain. They introduce the Hunger Games and as the movie continues it shows that Snow was the leader, making him the villain. While the movie goes on and the audience gets to know Peeta more, they learn that he is the love interest. And the mentor is Hamitch as he helps Katniss and Peeta survive the games.

When it comes to comparing my opening film to the "Hunger Games" I would like to express the character types, mainly my protagonist, clearly from the start of the film. With such a short amount of time it would be hard to show more of the character types. However, demonstrating the protagonist and love interest are the two I want to make clear.
