Blog post #7- "The Summer I Turned Pretty"
The TV series "The Summer I Turned Pretty" falls under the genres of romance, coming-of-age and drama. This series is about a girl, Belly, who every summer goes to a beach house with her family and her mom's best friend's family. Her mom's best friend's family, Susanna has two sons in the same age range as belly and she's torn. She doesn't know which guy to go for but she's loved Conrad all her life. The beginning of the second season Susanna dies. This is the major change that the protagonist faces while also struggling with identity crisis.
This series helped inspire what I want to include in my movie opening because it covers all things, I want mine to be about. They include the drama, the conflict, the major change, graduating high school, picking a college, heartbreak and friends. The series shows the comfort a person can get from another person and how it feels for that to be easily ripped away. The protagonist of the series is revolved around a teenage girl with a soundtrack that relates to how she feels. The series shows the coming-of-age genre and how it can make a person feel.
When doing my project, I don't plan on using the same plot. I like how the show put everything together and didn't make it look sloppy. The series is well structured, and the timing of each scene makes sense. In my project, I plan to use the same genres and use them together this way expanding the viewers. The more genres used in a series or film the more people's attention will be grabbed.
