Blog Post #34- The first reshoot

For a scene in my opening, I contain an over-the-shoulder shot with the main focus intending to be my protagonist lite up in the mirror. It is a small desk mirror with lights around the outside. The viewers are supposed to see the reflection of my protagonist.

This was the first shoot.

After looking back on the tape, the mirror went out of focus mid-shoot and at the time I did not realize. During refilming yesterday, I reshot the scene to try and make the camera focus better.

Here is the reshoot.

In the reshoot the camera stays a lot better focused. To keep the camera focused, while I was filming, I kept clicking on the mirror so it would not lose focus. Keeping the mirror focused is important because with the blurry shot it looked sloppy, lazy and unprofessional. By reshooting and including a more focused shot makes it look much better and gives the audience a clear shot of my protagonist.

Reshooting the scene is also important because it gives more clips to work with. By taking one clip and using it for your film gives you less of an opportunity to edit. By having multiple takes of one scene gives you more flexibility and options to work with. You get the opportunity to try different clips and move things around.
