Blog Post #36- Mirror angles

For a few shots in my scene, I filmed in the bathroom. During the filming I had a hard time trying to get the right angle where I captured my protagonist fully in the screen but also kept me out of the shot. To attempt to do this I tried doing things like hiding in the shower, standing on the toilet (where the picture was taken), standing outside the bathroom in the doorway and standing behind the shower curtain filming over. All different angles I tried out you could see me, my phone or my reflection somewhere in the shot.

To try and prevent this I moved around my protagonist and held my phone to try and find different ways to make it work. I did over the head, I attempted to get an eyeline match and over-the-shoulder and no matter what I tried the phone was in the film.

Another struggle with this scene was the side mirror. The side mirror is also a medicine cabinet. In the film my protagonist opens the medicine cabinet, grabs her toothpaste and then closes the medicine cabinet. When she would open the cabinet, the mirror would show things that the bigger mirror would not capture. To try and avoid this I had to squat to hid from the small mirror, the big mirror then the small mirrors reflection.

During this process I had to keep trying different things and adjusting to the small things that made the scene look unprofessional.

This was the final result:

Overall, I am content with the shot and am proud of the adjustments made. The camera is not visible in the shot and the focus is set on my protagonist grabbing the toothpaste.
